Letters on gender bias and discrimination written by adolescent girls from all over the world are at display at an exhibition at an art gallery here.
The exhibition organized by Creative Service Support Group at Insitituto Cervantes here features select letters written by adolescent girls from India, Britain, China, Mexico and UAE among others on the issues and problems they face in a male-dominated society.
Creative Service Support Group had sought the letters from girls sharing their thoughts, in a worldwide workshop in December 2014.
The letters by Indian girls mainly depict the discrimination that is observed in the rich to the poor sections of the society alike.
Saumya Bhatia writes, "Why should I be selfless, when they (men) are all about 'I, Me and Mine'? Why should I accept that I am less, when I am independent? Why should I choose between Ms and Mrs, when they are always Mr?"
The letters also depict the girls' dreams, hopes and aspirations.
In a letter, Suman has addressed her mother, articulating her wish to become the Prime Minister. She writes, "Mother, I wish to become the Prime Minister of this country. Can I? I believe that if you are with me, I will do it".
A video has been displayed in the exhibition, which features leading actresses like Shabana Azmi, Dia Mirza, Konkana Sen Sharma, Aditi Rao Hydari.
Theatre artist Lushin Dubey is also seen reading aloud the letter of a girl, apart from another theatre artist Vidushi Mehra. Actor Ranbir Kapoor's sister Riddhima Kapoor also figures in the video.
The exhibition houses the letters in art forms also. The sketch of a mother by Nandan Ghiya, and portrayal of dreams with the help of mirror and paper by Sachin George Sebastian are among the other highlights of the exhibition.
