"GJM leaders of Terai and Dooars in North Bengal and their supporters joined the Trinamool Congress to ensure speedy development of their areas," Roy told reporters at the party headquarters.
GJM Dooars area president Padam Lama, GJM founder member Raju Sai and several other leaders from the area joined the TMC with their supporters.
The announcement comes in the backdrop of a sudden souring of relationship between the GJM leadership and the government after over a year of bonhomie during which the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration treaty was signed.
The GJM has called two 48-hour strikes in March, to protest alleged highhandedness of the district administration.
