Posters bearing the name of youth wing of Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) were pasted on walls in the heart of Darjeeling town today blaming the ruling Trinamul Congress of taking "innocence of the people of Darjeeling hills" for granted.
"We will not accept the authoritarian rule of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee where she continues to torment the people of the hills and still says they are smiling," one of the posters, as translated in English, reads.
"We do not know what transpired between the Chief Minister and our party chief, but there are many things we are not satisfied with. Their (TMC) atrocities and authoritative rule have not ceased to exist in the hills. False cases are being slapped on many innocent people," the posters, coming up barely a week after Banerjee visited the Hills, said.
The posters referred to the meeting between GJMM chief and Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) head Bimal Gurung and Banerjee at Richmond Hill here.
The posters also questioned the spree of arrests by the administration during the recent statehood agitation, and claimed some GJMM supporters are still behind bars.
"We are being viewed as criminals just because we are trying to exercise our constitutional rights," the spokesperson of the youth front, Mr Prakash Gurung, said when contacted.
The youth front said it is organising a public meeting at Mela Ground in Kalimpong on August 2 to commemorate the self-immolation of Mangal Singh Rajput during the statehood agitation last year.
