GNDU wins Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy for record 22nd time

Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) has won the 'Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy' - the highest national sports award at the varsity level - for a record 22nd time for the year 2010-11.
University officials said that confirmation of the award reached them through a memorandum from the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The award comes with a replica of the trophy and a cash prize of Rs 10,00,000.
President Pranab Kumar Mukherjee would hand over the trophy to GNDU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ajaib Singh Brar, and the varsity's deputy director of sports, Dr HS Randhawa, at a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan on August 31.

"It is a matter of pride for the GNDU to have won this coveted trophy for a record 22nd time... GNDU has created history; no other university in the country can boast of such a performance," Randhawa said.
The Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy was instituted in 1956-57 as a running trophy by the Union Ministry of Education. It is awarded each year to the varsity which has put in the best all-round performance at university, national and international-level sports meets.
