Goa BJP legislator manhandled; hospitalised

Goa BJP legislator Vishnu Wagh was admitted to a state-run hospital here after his car was attacked and he was allegedly manhandled by a mob at Revora village here.
Wagh representing St Andre constituency was manhandled by a group of 70 people, whom he claimed were supporters of his own party but owing allegiance to another legislator.
The incident happened last night when Wagh was returning after attending a function which was organised by state Nationalist Congress Party president Nilkant Halarnkar.
The legislator who has lodged formal complaint with Mapusa police station last night was admitted to Goa Medical College and Hospital after he complained of uneasiness.

"He is suffering from blood pressure problem. His condition is stable right now but still he is kept under observation," said a doctor treating Wagh.
The attack is apparently a fall out of rumours that Wagh is trying to quit BJP to join NCP in near future and contest forthcoming Lok Sabha polls on the Sharad Pawar-led party ticket.

Wagh is also the Vice Chairman of Entertainment Society of Goa, an agency that hosts International Film Festival of India (IFFI) annually in the state.
Opposition Congress condemned the attack saying that the incident reflects on deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

"Forget about the common man, the lawmakers are not safe under Parrikar rule," said Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President John Fernandes. "Such a kind of incident has happened for the first time in the state," he added.
Halarnkar, from whose function Wagh was returning, today demanded immediate resignation of Manohar Parrikar as state Home Minister in wake of the attack.
