The Goa electricity department is sitting on arrears of Rs 200 crore which is yet to be recovered from various government departments and bodies, State Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar said.
He added that the electricity department is facing financial issues due to the piling up of these arrears and that bills were not being paid despite repeated reminders.
"The payments from the state government departments and state-run bodies is not being received on time by the electricity department. Entire backlog of such bills is now to the tune of Rs 200 crore," Madkaikar told reporters today.
The minister said that the intervention of chief minister Manohar Parrikar has been sought to solve the issue.
"The chief minister has issued a circular to the state accounts department to settle the bills of respective departments. The electricity department will send the bills to accounts department now who then will settle them through the finances of respective departments," he said.
