Goa Electricity department had fielded more than 1.20 lakh calls over power outage during January-March this year, the Legislative Assembly was told today.

All the calls were attended to within stipulated time and power supply was restored, state power ministry stated in a written reply.

A question was tabled by Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar.

Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar remains admitted in a Mumbai hospital after suffering brain stroke.

"The department had received 1,20,976 calls from the customers about power failures and outages during the first three months of this year. All the calls were attended to within the stipulated time and power supply restored," stated the reply.

Maximum calls (39,840) were received by the Mapusa sub-division, followed by Ponda (15,219) and Margao sub-divisions (15,215) calls.

The department has identified 508 power theft cases since April 2012, and penalties were imposed as per Electricity Act, 2003.

"No loss is caused to the department," it stated.
