Trying to siege the BJP-led government in Goa ahead of the 2017 state Assembly polls, Congress today alleged the government has failed to keep its promises made during in the last assembly elections.
"All that glitters is not gold. And the idiom has gone deep into the hearts of Goans as the BJP has failed to keep up the promises that they had made in their manifesto (in the last assembly polls)," Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) spokesperson, Yatish Naik, told a press conference here.
Naik, who is also a party general secretary, alleged that former chief minister Manohar Parikkar, who currently holds Defence Minister's portfolio, left the state without doing any concrete work, while Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar too has failed to meet the expectations of poeple.
"Over three and half years have passed... We have been seeing a lackluster governance. If you see the BJP manifesto, the then chief minister Manohar Parrikar has left without doing anything and the current CM Laxmikant Parsekar has failed on all fronts," he said.
Naik said BJP in its manifesto had promised to lift VAT, build the Zuari bridge within six months, create jobs, eliminate casinos, establish Lokayukta, special status for Goa etc among other issues but they reneged on their commitments and, thus, hoodwinked the people of Goa.
"They (BJP) rose to power on issue like special status, employment to youth, regional plan, mining. But today, what prevails is confusion on all these fronts. They have not solved any of these issues," he said.
Naik said they will reach out to the people and apprise them about the failures of the state government.
