Goa will be witnessing a normal winter this year with temperatures soaring during the daytime but soothing in night, local Indian Meteorological department (IMD) said.
IMD Goa observatory in-charge V K Mini told PTI that ongoing December month is likely to experience slightly colder weather as compared to last year December.
The lowest temperature in November this year was recorded at 18.5 degree Celsius on November 29, while highest daytime temperature in this season so far was registered yesterday at 34.5 degree Celsius, she said.
Places like Valpoi and Canacona recorded 15 and 16 degree Celsius respectively on November 29.
The temperature this November failed to beat the records of last year and was recorded similarly to that of in November in 2013. The minimum temperature in November, 2013 was recorded at 18.5 degree Celsius (on November 16), IMD data showed.
IMD's Goa office has two manual observatories in Panaji and Margao each and eight automatic weather measuring stations scattered across the state on strategic places bringing in the accurate data on daily basis, which is immediately uploaded on the department's website, the director said.
IMD do not have long term forecast of winter temperatures like the one they have for monsoon.
In November and December months, daytime temperature hovers around an average of 30 to 34 degree Celsius, while slips to around 19 degree Celsius in the night and wee hours.
Goa-based weather blogger Atul Naik said that November 2014 turned out to be topsy-turvy month for Goa, weather wise.
"The rainfall measuring 12.6 mm was recorded in Margao on November 14-15, which brought down the day temperatures suddenly to 29.8 degree Celsius from the usual mark of 34 degree Celsius," wrote Naik on his blog.
