A legislation for regularisation of houses built by 'traditional inhabitants' of Goa to accommodate their expanded family would be moved in the next Assembly session, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said today.
The houses of the traditional inhabitants built before February 28, 2014 to accommodate extra family members will be considered for regularisation, Parsekar said in the Assembly.
"If someone constructs the house today (illegally), he won't get the benefit of regularisation," the CM said.
Responding to a question raised by BJP legislator Siddharth Kunkolienkar, Parsekar said, "The law is for regularising houses of traditional inhabitants and not for those who illegally occupy spaces and construct houses."
He said that in Goa, people often have to construct alternate house as their family expands.
"They usually construct another house on their own land. They don't encroach anywhere. It is the duty of the government to regularise these houses," he said.
Intervening in the discussion, Leader of Opposition Pratapsingh Rane said illegal conversion of land use or selling of land should not be allowed.
