With the latest decision, the Wadia group company would have orders for 144 A320neos.
GoAir, which is preparing plans to fly overseas, today inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus for 72 A320neo aircraft at Farnborough International Airshow near London.
At current average list price, the latest order for 72 aircraft would be worth over USD 7.7 billion (more than Rs 51,000 crore).
"The new A320neo provide us the competitive edge to achieve our growth targets and help us strengthening our presence in the wider region.
In 2011, the airline had placed an order of 72 A320neos (new engine option) planes, which are more fuel efficient.
"The first two aircraft from this order were delivered in June. With the neighbourhood induction, GoAir will expand its network and offer fliers better connectivity," the airline said in a release.
Airbus Chief Operating Officer Customers, John Leahy said GoAir is among the first three A320neo operators, and with an order for 144 aircraft, it is one of the leading operators of the type.
"The A320neo family incorporates latest technologies including new generation engines and Sharklet wing tip devices, which together deliver more than 15 per cent in fuel savings from day one and 20 per cent by 2020 with further cabin innovations," it added.
