Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel today held a meeting with the newly-appointed chairpersons of re-constituted House committees and suggested them to be more active on issues concerning public.
In the re-constituted committees, most of the 20 AAP MLAs, whose membership was cancelled in the office-of-profit case, have been given new responsibilities.
Last month, the Delhi High Court had set aside their disqualification.
Talking about today's meeting, Goel said that he discussed various aspects pertaining to the functioning of House panels.
"House panels should be more active on public-related issues. In the meeting, various issues were discussed, including the functioning of the Assembly committees," Goel said.
The Assembly has constituted a nine-member committee on violation of protocol norms and contemptuous behaviour by government officers with MLAs.
AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj has been appointed the chairman of this new committee.
Delhi legislature has had constant run-ins with the bureaucracy over numerous issues ranging from the absence of officers in the Assembly committee meetings and "non-performance".
During a 17-day budget session, Aam Aadmi Party legislators had alleged that the officers did not give answer to their question raised by them.
The office of Lt Governor Anil Baijal had last month communicated to Goel that he cannot admit questions on reserved subjects including law and order, services, among others.
