Gold seized at airport in Coimbatore, Keralite held

Gold worth over Rs 39 lakh has been seized from a passenger who arrived here from Sharjah by an Air Arabia flight, directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) said Monday.

Based on information, Jamshid of Kozhikode was stopped and his baggage checked after he landed here on March 23.

The check yielded 1,200 gm of gold hidden in a coffee-maker, a DRI press release said.

Jamshid is believed to have confessed to his involvement in a gold-smuggling racket for a commission. He was arrested and enlarged on bail, the release said.
