Gold"bars worth Rs 85 lakhs were seized from a passenger who arrived at the international airport in Kozhikode today from a gulf nation, a top customs official said.
Customs Commissioner Sumit Kumar said based on a tip-off that gold was being smuggled through the airport, officials kept a vigil.
" Following suspicion, a passenger who came from Saudi Arabia by a Jet Airways flight was detained, he told PTI.
During a search, six cuboidal-shaped yellow metal bars were found concealed in each leg of the three kitchen tongs kept in Ali's baggage.
The bars were 24-carat gold, he said.
The man was arrested and later released on bail, he added.
