Four wagons of a container train on its way to Irugur from Vallarpadam derailed near here this evening, disrupting rail traffic.
Consequent to the derailment at Vallathol Nagar, rail traffic on the Shournur-Ernakulam route has been affected resulting in cancellation and some partial cancellation of some passenger trains, railway sources said.
At least four long-distance trains have been held up at various stations.
While the Kochuveli-Sampark Kranthi going to Chandigarh abd Ernakulam-Nizammuddin-Mangala Express have been held up at Vadakkancherry, the Kanyakumari-Mumbai Express is at Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram-Lokmanya Thilak at Chalakkudy, they said.
