Governor condoles death of oldest Mizo soldier

Subedar Major (Honorary Captain) R. Lawma, the longest living former Mizo Indian soldier, died at the age of 96 today, an official statement said.
Mizoram Governor Lt. General Nirbhay Sharma today sent wreaths and a condolence message to the family of Lawma, the statement said.
Born in 1921, Lawma joined the Assam Rifles when he was 17 years and 6 months old and fought during World War-II, the statement said.
He completed training as a paratrooper in 1946 from the Paratrooper Training School, Royal Air Force in Rawalpindi and served under Lt. Colonel A G Rangaraj, the first Indian paratrooper.

He was awarded 'Golden Yellow Wing' for para diving 75 times, it added.
