Govt alert about communally-sensitive incidents in UP: CM

The state government is alert about communally-sensitive incidents in Uttar Pradesh and intelligence mechanism has been made "pro-active" in this regard, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today said.
Akhilesh said this during a meeting with Chairman of the National Commission for Minorities, Naseem Ahmad at his official residence here, an official spokesman said in a statement issued here.
The chief minister and the chairman had a detailed discussion on situation in Muzaffarnagar and Saharanpur districts, he said.
Ahmad appreciated the state government for "prompt and fair action" in these incidents, it said.
Akhilesh said the government was "sensitive" towards such incidents and the intelligence mechanism has been made "pro-active".

Akhilesh said directives have been issued to "identify elements" causing damage to communal harmony in the state and to take "necessary preventive action" against them.

He also said that directives have been issued to "maintain a strict vigil" on anti-social and anarchist elements.
He said that in serious and sensitive issues, the officers have been directed to reach the spot promptly and take effective action.
The chief minister also claimed there were several small incidents in which efforts were made to "give them a communal colour", but they were "foiled" due to these measures of the government.
He said it was possible to maintain peace by resolving small problems at a local level.

Akhilesh said participation of all sections and community was important in the development of the state and the government was committed for justice and security for all.
He said the government was very serious against those causing loss to affected families in Muzaffarnagar incident, adding, cases were being pursued effectively to ensure that the guilty were punished.
Member of the Commission, Farida Abdullah Khan, Secretary Surjeet Chaudhary, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Rakesh Bahadur, Secretary (Home) Neeraj Gupta and DGP A L Banerjee were also present during the meeting.
