Refuting the charges of the opposition, TDP Kadapa district president R Srinivasulu Reddy said the state government is committed to supply water to Rayalaseema region for eradicating the perennial drought by "supplementing" water to 'Krishna delta'.
"Earlier project-wise water allocation was given by tribunals and now it has allowed the states to utilise water as per their requirement.
So it is easy for the government to divert water from Krishna river to Rayalaseema projects by supplying Godavari water to Krishan delta through 'Pattiseema' and 'Polavaram', he told PTI.
He further said the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is of the view "to supply Godavari water to Nagarjuna sagar", to divert Krishna water to Rayalaseema" and also considering a proposal to construct two check dams across Krishna river in between Nagarjunasagar and Prakasam to increase water storage.
As part of its commitment to complete all the ongoing projects in Rayalaseema region by the end of 2016, the government has initiated steps for "canal lining and wall construction" works from 0-18 KM with Rs 250 crore and repair works from 96 to 106 KM of Telugu ganga, to supply 17 TMC to 'Bramhamsagar reservoir' , Reddy said.
He said steps were mooted to complete the pending works in GNSS phase I (Galeru-Nagiri Sujala Sravanthi) to store 27 TMC in 'Gandikota reservoir' by next June and to sort out problems of submerged area farmers and diversion of 'Kadapa- Ballary road.
"After getting forest clearance, GNSS phase II works will be taken up to complete them by December 2016", Reddy said.
HNSS (Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi) phase I works are completed up to 'Jeedipalle reservoir'.
Forest Department clearances have been obtained and tenders called for nine packages in HNSS phase II.
Main canal work up to Madanapalli would be completed by June 2016, Reddy said and added that reservoirs at "Marala (Mudigubba), Cherlopalli (kadiri), veligallu (Galiveedu), Srinivaspuram (chinnamandem) and Adivipalli (pileru)" of HNSS phase II have already been completed.
Rayalaseema project works are being executed on war footing for supplying water to this "politically neglected backward region" by December 2016, Reddy asserted.
He assured that a steel factory would be established in Kadapa district and added that steps have been taken to establish many other mineral based industries.
"Chandrababu Naidu, who hails from this famine region, enjoyed people's affection earlier and again will 'win over them' by supplying water to Rayalaseema", he said, adding, the Government is committed for all round development of Kadapa and Rayalaseema.
