Government has dropped the terms 'Aam Aadmi' from the tagline of Aadhaar following requests including one from a Delhi BJP leader.
"Aadhaar tagline viz., 'Aam Aadmi ka Adhikar' has now been changed into 'Mera Aadhaar, Meri Pehchaan," a communication dated June 28 sent from Ministry of Communications and IT to Delhi BJP Spokesperson Ashwini Upadhyay said.
Upadhyay told PTI that he filed a petition before Prime Minister's Office on September 19, 2015 seeking correction in the tagline 'Aadhaar is Right of Common Man' as Aadhaar card is right of every Indian whether he or she belongs to below poverty line, economic weaker section, low or high income group.
Though no comment was received from UIDAI immediately, a source said that the tagline was changed around six months ago and there has been discussion around it after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was formed.
"The Aadhaar was created before formation of AAP. There had been discussion on changing tagline after the AAP was formed since the time of previous government. In the meantime there were some request filed for changing the tagline. The communication has been made now but it has been changed around 6 months ago," the source said.
