The Centre has done away with the mandatory requirement of getting application form for compassionate appointments countersigned by two permanent government employees and allowed self-declaration.
As per rules, a candidate applying for compassionate appointment has to furnish a declaration or an undertaking to the effect that the facts given by him or her are, to the best of his or her knowledge, correct.
The rules say that the candidate has to also furnish a declaration that he shall maintain properly other family members who were dependent on the deceased government servant or member of the Armed Forces. In case it is proved at any time that the said family members are being neglected by him or her, his or her appointment may be terminated.
As per the existing rules, this declaration or undertaking has to be countersigned by two permanent government employees.
"However, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has examined the matter. It is felt that the declaration or undertaking furnished by the applicant in application form is sufficient and that there is no need of getting it countersigned by two permanent government employees," the DoPT said in an order.
Accordingly, it has been decided to delete this provision of getting the declaration or undertaking furnished by the applicant countersigned by two permanent government employees, the order said.
