"Import of radio remote control apparatus is free subject to license issued by the WPC wing of Department of Telecommunications and Information Technology," Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification.
Earlier imports of these equipment were under the restricted category.
A government official said that for certain categories of such products, importers are required to take license from wireless wing of the Department of Telecommunications as well as DGFT.
This notification implies that now importers would not have to take licence from the DGFT for this category of products, the official added.
