Government has extended the tenure of Bharathi S Sihag as chairman-cum-managing director (CMD) of the state-owned iron ore miner NMDC by one month.
The month-long extension for Sihag, who holds additional charge of CMD, is effective November 1. At present, she is posted as special secretary in the steel ministry.
"In terms of order dated October 28, 2016, of the ministry of steel, the additional charge of the post of CMD NMDC Ltd is assigned to Bharathi S Sihag, Special Secretary and Financial Advisor, the ministry of steel, for a further period of one month with effect from November 1, 2016," NMDC said in a regulatory filing today.
The order is applicable till November 1 or till the appointment of a regular incumbent to the post, or until further orders, whichever is the earliest, it added.
Sihag has been holding the additional charge as CMD of the iron ore miner from January 1 after the previous CMD Narendra Kothari retired on December 31, 2015.
In September, government headhunter Public Enterprises Selection Board had recommended Narendra Kumar Nanda's name for the post of CMD of NMDC.
PESB will send its recommendation to the Department of Public Enterprises, which in turn will send it to the ministry of steel for consideration. The ministry after getting necessary clearances from CVC and other agencies will forward it to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet for approval.
