The bill seeking creation of a national commission for preservation of heritage sites is being reviewed, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.
Minister for State for Culture Mahesh Sharma said 'The National Commission for Heritage Sites Bill' was introduced in the Upper House of the Parliament in 2009.
It envisages responsibilities for the commission such as making lists of heritage sites for nomination to UNESCO, maintaining a national register of such sites, identifying and recommending measures, guidelines and policies for conservation, protection and management of heritage sites.
Based on the inputs received from various stakeholders, the Ministry of Culture is reviewing the bill, he added.
Responding to another question, Sharma said that a Parliamentary Standing Committee has made some observations on the bill including transparent procedure of notification of heritage sites shall be provided in the bill to avoid any conflict between central and state agencies.
