Fire broke out in a government high school at Gooripora on the outskirts of Srinagar last night, causing damage to the building, a police spokesman said.
The cause of the fire is being investigated, he said.
In a separate incident, five shops were gutted in fire at Tikipora village of Lolab area in Kupwara district of north Kashmir.
The fire broke out due to a short circuit inside a shop and within no time engulfed four other shops in a single story building belonging to one, Mohammad Maqbool Sheikh, the spokesman said.
No casualties have been reported, he added.
