The Union Government has set up a 20-member committee to examine the reasons for backlog in filling up of reserved vacancies in SC, ST and OBC categories.
The development comes in wake of the review of a special recruitment drive launched by the government in November 2008 to fill up the backlog reserved vacancies.
"The progress was reviewed in May 2013 and it was noted that 25 per cent of the posts still remained vacant," said a government statement here.
Out of a total of 64,175 backlog vacancies, 48,034 vacancies were filled up, it said.
Progress of the drive was reviewed in July, 2011 and it was decided to re-launch the drive so as to fill up the remaining identified backlog vacancies by March 31, 2012.
Thereafter, the progress of the programme was reviewed again in May 2013.
According to the statement, the analysis of data and consultation with various ministries indicated that lack of finishing skills or interview skills, less availability of professionally qualified persons, dearth of professionally qualified persons, especially in hearing impaired category of disability etc are some of the reasons for less employability.
"The 20-member committee headed by the Secretary, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment will suggest measures to enhance the employability of reserved category candidates," it said.
The Committee members are from various Central government ministries such as Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Personnel and Training, Ministry of Human Resources Development, Ministry of Railways, UPSC, SSC, Railway Recruitment Board etc.
The Committee will submit its report within a period of three months from the date of its constitution.
