The CPI(M) today urged the central government to disapprove the US' decision to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal and make it clear that India would not support any sanctions against Tehran.
Condemning US President Donald Trump's announcement to withdraw the US from the Iran nuclear deal, the Left party, in a statement, said that the move was an "unwarranted and irresponsible" step and that the threat of imposing sanctions on Iran was "illegal" and should be opposed by the United Nations.
"The politburo calls on the Modi government to disapprove of the US action. The government should make it clear that it will not support any sanctions against Iran and will maintain full economic and trade ties with Iran and not succumb to US pressures,"the statement said.
Noting that the International Atomic Energy Agency in February 2015 had stated that Iran is compliant with the terms of the agreement, the Left party said the European allies of the US, who have disapproved of Trump's action, should work with Russia and China to maintain the pact.
