Govt teacher killed in 'unprovoked lathicharge'

A government teacher died and some others were injured when police allegedly used canes to disperse them while they were moving towards the Vidhan Sabha to hold protest demanding restoration of pension scheme.
President of UP unit of Pension Bachao Manch of All Teachers and Employees Welfare Association (ATEWA) Vijay Bahadur Bandhu claimed police used lathis to disperse teachers when they were moving towards Vidhan Sabha complex after sitting on dharna at Laxman Mela ground in support of their demand for restoration of pension for government teachers.
While one teacher, Ramashish (38), belonging to Hata in Kushinagar was "killed in the unprovoked police action", several others were injured and admitted to hospital, Bandhu claimed.

Police, when contacted, said mild force was used to chase them away but did not immediately confirm any death or injury.
Agitated over the police action, the angry teachers blocked the road in front of the civil hospital and demanded Rs one crore compensation and job to the dependent of the deceased from the government.
Senior SP leader Manzil Saini rushed to the hospital to bring the situation under control.

Meanwhile UP Chief Secretary Rahul Bhatnagar has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the teacher's death, an official release said.
Bhatnagar, who met the delegation of teachers, has directed immediate help of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased and assured that decision of providing job to his dependent will be taken as per rule.

The CS said that action will be taken against those responsible for the death of the teacher on the basis of the inquiry report.
