A group of people today allegedly attempted attack on 'Maa' and her son Guru Purushottamacharya of Siddhdata Ashram here in which five of her followers were injured, police and ashram officials said.
The incident took place around 2 PM when a group of people armed with knives, lathis and other weapons tried to attack Maa who was present in the main hall, they said, adding that but her followers came forward to protect her.
Maa, who is in her seventies, was not keeping well for the last many days and had come out in the main hall to bless the people.
An ashram official claimed that the attack took place due to dispute over division of ashram property among the sons of Maa.
"Maa has two sons, elder being Guru Purushottamacharya and younger one being Madhusudanacharya Swami. Ashram has property worth Rs 500 crore, and is owned by Purushottamacharya who is also holding the main seat at the ashram," said Mukesh, an official of the Ashram.
After the death, Maa wants to divide the property equally between the two brothers, but Purushottamacharya was opposed to it, which could be the reason behind today's attack, he added.
Madhusudanacharya claimed that he was not in the hall at the time of attack.
The injured were identified as Pramod (32) from Aligarh in UP, B KVerma (50), Vishwanath Sharma, Ravi Singh and Amar Singh -- all from Faridabad.
Police, meanwhile, allowed Madhusudanacharya (52) to exit the Ashram.
As he had suspected an attack on his life, he has been provided with security by the police, said Commissioner of Police Subhash Yadav.
SHO of Surajkund police station, Narender Singh said the police was investigating the matter and no case has yet been registered.
