GST: Apollo Hospitals hails decision to exempt healthcare

Leading healthcare provider Apollo Hospitals Group today welcomed the GST Council's decision to exempt healthcare from the Goods and Services Tax to be rolled out from July.
"We believe that by doing so the government has accorded healthcare and education the due importance and impetus that they need to become game-changing agents for transformation of India, its people and the economy", Apollo Hospitals Group MD Suneeta Reddy said.
Since healthcare was always on the zero list, the impact of this announcement will be neutral, she added.
"It is well known that the government is taking many steps towards universal health coverage and as such we wait for their position on input taxes with the hope that they are not cost inflationary", Reddy said.

The GST Council in its meeting held today in Srinagar has decided to continue exemption of healthcare, education from GST.
