The BJP today resolved to win over 150 seats in the Gujarat Assembly polls, due in December this year, at the party's two-day state executive meeting which began at the temple town Somnath in Gir Somanth district.
Top leaders, including Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel, the state unit BJP president Jitubhai Vaghani and Union minister Parshottam Rupala, attended the meeting, besides party functionaries.
The political resolution passed at the meeting urged the party cadres to pull their socks up to win over 150 seats in Gujarat, stated a party release.
Gujarat, which has 182 Assembly seats, is the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP president Amit Shah.
In the 2012 polls, the BJP won 116 seats and the Congress 60 seats.
Referring to the BJP's landslide victory in Uttar Pradesh, the Minister of State for Home Pradeepsinh Jadeja said the party workers in Gujarat will have to work to realise the slogan of "300-plus in UP and 150-plus in Gujarat."
Through the resolution, tabled by Jadeja and supported by state Forests Minister Ganpat Vasava, the BJP exuded confidence that people of Gujarat will never choose the Congress, as only the BJP can provide peace, harmony and progress, said the release.
According to the party sources, Amit Shah is expected to attend the conclave tomorrow.
Responding to senior Congress leader Shankersinh Vaghela's recent allegation that BJP is trying to lure sitting opposition MLAs, chief minister Vijay Rupani said Vaghela himself is weakening his party.
"By making such allegation, Vaghela at least accepting that Congress MLAs can switch sides by taking money. I believe that Vaghela himself is weakening his party. He is trying to pressurise his high command by taking our name," Rupani told reporters after the meet in Somnath.
