A forester was killed and two others injured in an attack by a sloth bear today when they were camping at the Kansa village in Banaskantha district to trap the wild animal, a senior official said.
The sloth bear had attacked and killed two shepherds in the same village yesterday.
Three forest department officials were attacked and injured by the sloth bear when they were camping at Kansa village under Balaram-Ambaji Wildlife Sanctuary. One of the officials died on the spot, said Range Forest Officer Bajitkhan Sindhi.
The officials were there to track and trap the bear that had killed two shepherds.
"Forester R H Patni died on the spot while two others were rushed to Palanpur civil hospital for treatment," Sindhi said.
The body of the deceased has been sent for post mortem, and the injured were identified as Bharat Chaudhary and OB Baloch, the officer said.
Senior forest department officials rushed to the village and effort was on to trap the bear, he said.
Shepherds Bhikhabhai Bhagora (35) and Manabhai Angari (25), who belonged to Khapra village, were killed by the sloth bear when they went to the forest area to graze their goats and sheep.
When they did not return, some villagers went looking out for them and were also attacked and injured by the wild animal.
