Among these seven new medical colleges, two are greenfield colleges having intake capacity of 150 each while five are brownfield colleges having combined intake capacity of 750 seats of MBBS course, said an official release.
Gujarat Health Minister Shankar Chaudhary said the increase of 1,050 seats would help students from Gujarat in securing admissions in their home state instead of going abroad for medical education.
The five brownfield self financed medical colleges will be attached with existing government hospitals in five districts -- Dahod, Tapi, Bharuch, Banaskantha and Amreli -- and will be run by Not-for-Profit organizations approved by the government, said the release.
The two greenfield hospitals will be build by K K Shah Sabarkantha Arogyamandal, Vatrak and Nutan Sarva Vidhyalaya Kelavni Mandal, Visnagar.
Earlier, the state had 3,400 medical seats in various medical colleges.
