Guj HC to govt:Provide disabled job quota info in newspaper ad

The Gujarat High Court today directed the state government and its recruiting agencies to provide a column on three per cent reservation provided to candidates with disabilities in job advertisements issued by them in newspapers.
A division bench of Chief Justice R Subhash Reddy and Justice V M Pancholi passed the order after hearing a PIL that challenged newspaper advertisements issued by government recruiting agencies -- Gujarat Subordinate Services Board and Gujarat Panchayat Services Selection Board -- which did not mention reservation-related information for such candidates.
The bench said it should ensure that a column on reservation-related information is included in advertisements issued in future.

The PIL was filed by NGO Swaraj India, which made the state government, commissioner of disabilities and Gujarat Public Service Commission as respondents.
All three agencies have in November issued advertisements in newspapers related to over 20,000 job vacancies in various departments of the state governments including those at panchayat and taluka level.
But barring GPSC, the other two agencies missed out on the column providing three per cent reservation to differently-abled persons as per provisions of the Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995.
The agencies argued that they have provided the information regarding the three per cent reservations on their website.

The petitioner contended that if a candidate does not see provisions of reservation for differently-abled persons in newspaper advertisements, he will not go to the website to apply for the job.
