Gujarat: 24 kg of gold found in container, seized

The Customs department today seized 24 kilogram of gold, which was allegedly being smuggled, from a container that had recently arrived at Mundra port here from Dubai, officials said.
The container was kept at the Container Freight Service (CFS) facility near the port, they said.
The gold was hidden inside the container that also had scrap metal, a senior Kandla Customs offcial said.
A team of the Kandla Customs Special Intelligence Branch reached Mundra and started searching some of the containers, which had arrived recently, as they had doubts about the actual contents, the official said.
During the search, the team found 24 kg of gold hidden with scrap metal in the container, which had arrived from Dubai. It seemed it was done to evade duty, the official said.

The search operation is still on as some more containers are also under their radar, the official said.
