In a bid to prevent 'bore well tragedies' which take a toll of little children, the Gujarat government amended its guidelines and added one more clause in it, officials said here today.
"The Gujarat government has added one more clause in it," the additional chief secretary of the state home department S K Nanda told PTI.
This development came after increasing bore well tragedies in the state, including the one on Saturday in which a four-year-old-boy died, who fell into an abandoned bore well in Gokulpur-Para village of Dhrol taluka in Jamnagar.
Giving the details of the added clause, Nanda said that before a persons start the process of digging a private bore well, he has to inform in the concerned police station.
The police-men will have to visit the place and after that only a person can start digging a private bore-well, he said.
Nanda further said that the policemen will inspect the place where a borewell is being dug and check if the norms are being followed or not.
"If the person is found digging the bore well without taking prior permission then he wil be liable to be punished for causing the death by negligence," Nanda said.
As per guidelines, a person, who wants to dig a borewell, has to inform the District Collector and District Superitendent of Police as well, he said.
A four-year-old boy had died today after falling in 350 feet deep borewell in Jamnagar district after the failure of four-hour-long rescue operation.
