"I extend my heartiest greetings to all the six crore people of Gujarat on the occasion of beginning of New Year today. I prayed to God that Gujarat becomes more prosperous and surge ahead in it's journey of development," Patel told reporters.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister called on state Governor O P Kohli at Raj Bhavan. She also offered her prayers at Bhadrakali temple in the city and at Panchnath temple of Lord Shiva in Gandhinagar.
BJP president Amit Shah also met Patel in the afternoon and exchanged greetings for new year, stated an official press release.
In her interaction with media at a function here, Patel urged people to suggest ways to improve her governance.
"There are still some sectors where we are (lagging) behind. In this new year, my government will try to develop these sectors with the help of people. I urge people to come ahead to pinpoint our mistakes so that we can bring improvements," the CM said.
"The way people have always supported BJP and provided valuable guidance and motivation in the past, I am sure that you will also support us in this year too," she said.
The Gujarati new year falls on Varshapratipada or Pratipada Padwa during Diwali in Hindu month of Kartik.
