Gujarat govt to set up 100 mld seawater desalination plant

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today said his government will set up a seawater desalination plant of 100 million litre per day (mld) capacity near Jodiya town in coastal Jamnagar district.

Jamnagar in Saurashtra region of Gujarat faces acute water crisis especially in summer season.

Urging people to use every drop of water carefully, Rupani said the state government has decided to set up the plant to reduce water scarcity during summer.

"A 100 mld capacity seawater desalination plant will be soon set up near Jodiya town of Jamnagar," the chief minister was quoted as saying in an official release.

"The state government is committed to provide sufficient water to people of Saurashtra region and the plant will help them to reduce the water scarcity during the summer," Rupani said.

However, the statement did not mention as to when the work on setting up the proposed plant will commence.
