Gur strong on brisk buying, scarcity of stocks

Gur (jaggery) prices soared by Rs 200 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today following paucity of stocks and brisk buying by stockists and retailers.

Muradnagar gur market also revealed a firm tendency on scarcity of stocks, registered net gains up to Rs 200 per quintal.

Marketmen said paucity of stocks due to negligible arrivals from manufacturing belts because of bad weather conditions, sparked by speculative buying mainly pushed up gur prices in Delhi and Muradnagar.

In Delhi, gur Pedi and Dhayya prices shot up by Rs 200 each to end the day at Rs 3,000-3,100 and Rs 3,200-3,300 per quintal.

Meanwhile, gur Chakku and Shakkar prices hardened by Rs 100 each to conclude the day at Rs 3,000-3,100 and Rs 3,300-3,400 per quintal, respectively.

At Muradnagar, gur Dhayya prices climbed up from Rs 2,600-2,700 to Rs 2,800-2,850, showing a net rise of up to Rs 200 per quintal.

Gur Pedi prices also advanced from Rs 2,500-2,650 to settle at Rs 2,625-2,750, collecting a gain of up to Rs 100 per quintal.
