Banned gutkha worth around Rs 24 lakh has been seized and one person arrested in this connection here in Maharashtra, police said on Thursday.
In a release, Palghar district police PRO Hemant Katkar said a team of police personnel intercepted a tempo near Acchad check post in Talasari on Wednesday and found it was transporting gutkha, whose sale, manufacturing and consumption is banned in the state.
The seized gutkha, which was of different brands, was worth around Rs 24 lakh, he said.
The tempo driver, Munawarali Moharam Ali Chowdhari (25), has been arrested, Katkar said.
The two owners of the tempo are yet to be arrested, the release said.
