Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik today gave his approval on the name of former chief secretary Jawed Usmani for appointment as Chief Information Commissioner, a Raj Bhawan release issued here said.
The Governor has given his approval on the name of Javed Usmani for the post of Chief Information Commissioner, the release said.
Last week, the Governor had sent the file recommending the name of Usmani due to lack of clearance report of vigilance commission.
The vigilance report was sent to the Raj Bhawan on Friday last after which the Governor has cleared Usmani's name and sent the file for further action by the department concerned, the release added.
A three-member committee, headed by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, after considering applications for the post of CIC has selected the name of Usmani and had forwarded the same to the Raj Bhawan on Monday last for approval.
Leader of Opposition in Assembly Swami Prasad Maurya and Leader of the House in Council Ahmad Hasan are other members of the committee.
In absence of clearance report of the vigilance commission, which is a mandatory provision, the Governor had sent the file back to the government.
Before being appointed as the chief secretary, Usmani was also posted as secretary in Union coal ministry.
Another technical point in Usmani's appointment is that presently he is chairman of UP Board of Revenue.
Under Right to Information Act any person could not be appointed on the constitutional post while he is in government service.
