With an aim to bring cheer in the lives of people, Madhya Pradesh CM, Shivraj Singh Chouhan today said the newly constituted 'Happiness Department' will launch its maiden week-long functions from January 14.
"A week-long programme of Happiness Department christened as Anandam will begin on January 14," Chouhan told the concluding session of state BJP executive meet here.
He said cultural and sports programmes are scheduled throughout the week in all the 51 district headquarters. Later, such programmes will be organised at block level.
"Sports, cultural and other such public programmes bring cheer to people," he said.
Chouhan appealed to the people to donate their extra belongings to those who are in need of them and bring happiness in their lives.
"I request the well off people to donate their extra belongings at a place from where the have-nots can pick them up and use it," he said.
Madhya Pradesh last year became the first State in the country to set up a 'Happiness Department', with an aim to ensure "happiness in the lives of common people".
At present Chouhan is heading the department.
The idea of having such a department has been adopted from Bhutan which has "Happiness Index" to measure happiness of its people.
Announcing 'Happiness Department' in April, Chouhan had said happiness will not come into the lives of people merely with materialistic possessions or development but by infusing positivity in their lives so that they don't take extreme steps like suicide.
