Har governor confers degrees on students of Bansi Lal varsity

In the first convocation ceremony of Chaudhary Bansi Lal University here, Haryana governor Kaptan Singh Solanki today conferred degrees on 236 students, including 178 female.
Besides, 17 students were awarded gold medals, and honorary D.Litt degree was conferred on former minister of Uttar Pradesh, Ravinder Shukla.
Solanki, who is also the university's Chancellor, said the girls outnumbering the boys at the convocation was a reflection of the success of the 'Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao' campaign being implemented by the state government.
"The sex ratio at birth in the state will soon cross the 950 mark, for which I congratulate the people," he said.

He exhorted the students to dedicate themselves towards bringing transformation in the society and the country.
The purpose of education should be to bring about positive change in life, rather than memorising information, he added.

Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma said the students have now crossed another milestone and should prepare for the next phase of life.
"They should work in an exemplary manner for upliftment of the society. The Haryana government, by incorporating the Shreemad Bhagavad Gita in the curriculum, has acquainted the youth with the ancient culture," he added.
Former Union human resource development minister Murli Manohar Joshi also spoke on the occasion.
