In order to generate energy from waste, a plant would be set up under this project, which would generate at least 100 MW of electricity daily, he said.
It will be set up in collaboration with the Urban Local Bodies Department, municipal corporations of Gurugram, Faridabad, and Eco Green Energy Private Limited, to dispose of the solid waste in the two districts, the spokesperson said.
He said the project, costing Rs 430 crore, would be one of the largest projects of its kind in India.
Under the project, segregation would be done for waste collected from houses at different points.
The waste collected from houses and streets would be processed at the site in Bandhwari village, the spokesperson said.
Besides, the project includes setting up of a modern compost processing unit, biogas and an RDF unit. It would be designed and developed in compliance with the Municipal Solid Waste Management Rule-2016 notified by the Ministry of Environment and Forests and other rules and instructions of the National Green Tribunal, he said.
Every day, 1,400 tonnes of solid waste is produced in Gururgram and Faridabad. Under the project, door-to-door garbage collection would startwithin four monthsand the whole city would be covered in the next one month.
Through the 'Swachh Bharat' Mission a one-time grant of Rs 75 crore would be spent on setting up a plant to generate energy from waste, he said.
For implementation of the project, the assistance of residents of Gururgram, Faridabad and Bandhwari, workers of solid waste management and non-government organizations would be sought, the spokesperson added.
