Even as the GST roll-out from next fiscal remains "unclear", the Haryana government has asked traders to furnish correct Permanent Account Number (PAN) details for the allotment of Goods and Services Tax Identification Number (GSTIN).
The move comes as part of state government's preparation for implementing Goods and Services Tax (GST) which has been proposed to be implemented from April 1, 2016.
Under the GST regime, the dealers and traders will be allotted GSTIN by replacing their existing VAT based Tax Identification Number (TIN) for smooth implementation of new indirect tax regime.
Notably, the new GSTIN will be a PAN-based number.
"We have asked dealers whose PAN numbers are found to be invalid because of various reasons to submit correct details of PAN numbers and this exercise is part of state's preparations for the GST roll-out," Haryana Excise and Taxation Commissioner Shyamal Misra said here today.
Haryana has about 2.20 lakh dealers.
The excise and taxation department has put up a list of around 60,000 dealers on its website whose PAN details were invalid.
In the list, there are dealers who have either not submitted their PAN numbers or have submitted invalid PAN numbers. Some dealers' PAN numbers do not even exist in CBDT database.
"While validating the PAN details of the existing dealers with the Income Tax Department database, it was observed that certain dealers have not furnished their PAN details so far to the department.
"Besides these, the PAN details of certain dealers are invalid as per the Income Tax department database," said a public notice issued by the department.
The department has asked dealers to update their correct PAN details by August 18, otherwise the department will initiate the cancellation proceedings against those dealers as per Haryana Value Added Tax Act, 2003.
