Haryana Government has decided to delete the "objectionable words" from an annexure of Scheduled Castes lists and from now on these words will not be used while issuing the SC certificates.
Giving this information, Haryana Chief Secretary P K Chaudhery said here today that the "objectionable words" would be deleted with immediate effect as they have lost their relevance.
These words were being used while issuing certificates ever since Haryana was carved out as a separate state in 1966, he said.
Chaudhery in an official release here said that while issuing Scheduled Caste Certificate, instead of the "objectionable words" being used earlier, the words 'Balmiki' and 'Chamar' would be used.
He said the objectionable words were being used since the time Haryana was found and "have been a big obstacle in connecting these people to mainstream and towards changing the view of the society towards them."
The Chief Secretary informed that circulars have been issued in this regard to all Administrative Secretaries, Heads of Departments, all Divisional Commissioners, Chief Administrators, Managing Directors of Boards, Corporations and Public Sector Undertakings, Deputy Commissioners, Sub Divisional Officers (Civil), Registrar Punjab and Haryana High Court and Registrars of all Universities in the state.
