Haryana Higher Education Department has made wearing of helmets and fastening of seatbelts in cars mandatory for all college students even when they are inside the campus.
The decision was taken in a review meeting of Road Safety Programme held under the chairmanship of Dr Rakesh Gupta, Additional Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Haryana, an official spokesman said.
Those students who would not abide by the rules would not be allowed to enter the campus, he said.
The spokesman said the director general of Higher Education Department has issued directions to the principals of all government, government aided private and self-funded colleges for strict compliance.
