Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij today ordered a probe into the PGIMS Rohtak lift mishap in which a 62-year-old man was killed.
Anand Swaroop, a resident of Janata Colony in Rohtak, was killed yesterday allegedly after he got stuck in a lift in the OPD section of the medical institute.
Stating that a director-level officer of the state health department would conduct the inquiry into the freak episode, he added that the lift had reportedly stopped working due to power failure.
He said it was a matter of investigation why the lift stopped working after the failure of power even while it was connected with the generator of the hospital.
He said he has asked the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to direct the civil surgeons concerned of various districts to check the lift of their hospitals in a proper way to ensure such incidents are not repeated.
Vij said he had got a complaint about the lift of Ambala City civil hospital which had not been working properly for last several years.
He said those old lifts which were not in working properly even after repeated repairs would be replaced soon.
On wrestler Sandeep Rana replacing Narsingh Yadav in 74 kg freestyle wrestling category in Rio Olympic, Vij, who is also the Haryana Sports minister, said the decision of Wrestling Federation of India was to be welcomed, as there was no option left.
