Taking a cue from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's campaign to give up LPG subsidy, Haryana would launch a scheme to inspire people to voluntarily surrender social security pension.
Haryana Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Kavita Jain, who was speaking on the sidelines of launching of 'Thari Pension Thare Pass' scheme here today, said soon the scheme would be implemented in the state.
"Soon a scheme would be implemented in the state under which people would be inspired to give up social security pension on the pattern of the scheme introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give up LPG subsidy," Jain, the BJP MLA from Sonepat, said.
Jain also said that government would acknowledge the gesture of those who have been taking social security pension through unfair means, but give up their pension on their own.
The funds thus saved through this would be utilised for development of the state, she added.
Notably, to ensure complete transparency in disbursement of social security pensions, the Haryana Government today transferred social security pensions of July 2015 amounting to about Rs 119 crore directly into the bank accounts of 10,01,795 eligible beneficiaries under the scheme 'Thari Pension Thare Pass'.
As Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar pressed the remote button, the arrear of pension from March to June 2015 amounting to Rs 13.23 crore was also transferred to the beneficiaries.
At present there are over 23.3 lakh beneficiaries getting benefit under various social security schemes on which an expenditure of Rs 270 crores monthly is being incurred.
The State Government disburses various social security pensions like Old Age Samman Allowance, Widow and destitute pension, Disability pension, Ladli Social Security Schemes, Financial Assistance to Destitute Children, allowances to Eunuchs, dwarfs and physically challenged children through the banks.
