The Jharkhand High Court Friday asked the CBI to reply within two weeks on former Jharkhand minister Dulal Bhuyan's prayer to adjourn his conviction in a disproportionate assets case by a special CBI court.
Bhuyan, who was a minister in the erstwhile Madhu Koda-led UPA government, was sentenced to five years' imprisonment recently in the case.
Bhuyan, who is on bail now, asked the high court to adjourn the sentence to enable him contest the Lok Sabha elections.
He informed the bench of Justice Rajesh Shankar that the Supreme Court had adjourned sentence of a petitioner and allowed him to contest elections, upon which the court asked the CBI for its reply within two weeks.
Bhuyan has challenged the CBI court's conviction in the high court.
Bhuyan, who was in Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) and the Congress, joined the Bahujan Samaj Party recently.
