The first bench, comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana, passed the order on a petition by senior advocate A E Chelliah to direct the Tamil Nadu Home Secretary and the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry to give a stipend of Rs.5,000 per month for one year to the advocates from the date of enrollment with BCTP.
The bench said "the Home and Law Departments should bestow their consideration on this request and we hope that they should be able to find some scheme to assist the young members of the Bar."
